Stainless steel owes its anti-corrosive properties to a microscopically thin oxide layer. This is the passive layer. Essential for the formation of the passive layer is a clean surface free of foreign metals, which are removed by pickling products. With the use of a passivation agent, the passive layer is restored in a short time and over time will become thicker. After passivation, an optically clean appearance is obtained.
The passivation agent RP can be applied by brushing, spraying or dipping. The exposure time is at least 20 min. After the exposure time, rinse with cold water, possibly with a high pressure cleaner if required.
The passive layer is 0.06 – 0.08 m thin (for comparison, a human hair is 70 – 170 μm thick)
